Our Step By Step Process To Carpets And Flooring Combination
STEP 1
Remove the old and prepare your floor
We carefully uplifted and removed the old flooring and prepared the hallway and stairs for the new flooring.
In this case, the raw floor was flat with no holes, so no screeding or sanding preparation was required. A benefit of luxury vinyl is that it can be laid over most types of floors without underlay.
STEP 2
How to lay patterned flooring
Start from the centre of your floor and work outwards systematically by lining up the design edge of each tile—a meticulous process of installing from the middle outwards.
In this case, our precise team of LVT fitters began centrally connecting the geometrically aligned floor, installed using Harvey Maria Walbrook LVT tiles.
STEP 3
How to edge and finish patterned vinyl flooring
Once the central tiles are laid correctly, the edge tiles are cut with precision and adjusted to fit perfectly against skirting boards and floor edges. Sometimes, you must remove the skirting to lay the tiles flush for a perfect fit.
This type of precise fitting with skirting board adjustment is something our fitters complete.
STEP 4
How to choose a carpet to match a patterned floor
When matching a geometric floor, the best choice is to choose a base colour in the flooring and use that tone as the dominant or sole colour in your carpet.
The Victorian-style geometric pattern was white and grey, so the ideal choices were white or grey carpets. Grey was the perfect choice for a staircase that would take heavy traffic and minimise any marks from showing. So our final step was laying the stair carpet after the floor installation.
THE RESULT
How to mix carpet and flooring
Choose floor colours and finishes that complement each other to combine carpet and flooring. They don’t have to be exactly the same colour, but they should be from the same colour family—cool tones with cool tones, warm tones with warm.
In this case, light grey tones with dark geometric grey tones sit together harmoniously.
